9/14/18

I am writing Friday's  post tonight as we had lots of company and night help while in Spirit Lake, Iowa.

We left Cedar Rapids with a sunny hot day in the forecast, and they were right!  Hot and humid, ah Midwest fall!  If you have ever ridden across Iowa you know the newest field is the wind fields amoung the corn.

Another landmark is Miss Pocahontas. I remember driving by her when I was younger and driving my sister to school in Vinton.

We stopped at a gas station and look at this bubble gum...a yard long box of it!

We went through Spencer and found a cafe to have lunch, The Grand Lunch Box Cafe.  The boys had a hot beef sandwich was well reviewed.  I had the homemade onion rings and mocha espresso shake. The taste on each was good but the breeding was a bit thick on some of the fries and the shake was
very thin.  The waitress was very pleasant and patient while we ordered.  It was a tiny facility right n
Main Street which reminded me of The Hamburger Shop in Sheldon when I was younger.

The riders came into Spirit Lake at the Indian Motorcycle factory.  We were not only greeted by fans but family and friends!  What a wonderful surprise to have so much support!  The factory supplied cold water, brisket sandwiches, and a tour to the riders and crews.  After all the bikes were dismissed from the display, I went out with my family and Kevin went to work on Patience.

Back at the parking lot Patience got a small amount of attention.  Some friends from Kevin's AMCA motorcycle group were there and helped to repair his hinge pin on the rear fender.  Kevin had to shim the magneto, put on a new rear light and some routine items.  We were done by 10:30.  We can't thank our visitors enough for they suppprt and help!

Tomorrow they are off on the longest day, 314 miles Pierre, South Dakota.  It will be another hot and sunny day for the riders.

Funny notice of the day: the little notes on the town signs such as -
Mallard, we are friendly ducks
Fonda, we have everything but Henry

And most importantly, the exits match the mile marker!!
